NEW CROSSROADS
Stil from video 23', 2006
A selection of inhabitants from the township New Crossroads (Cape Town), attempt to change the location with a not functional working intervention. In a public field, they build a tower of 5 meters by stacking beams of wood, painted in a vivid green.
When the structure is at its highest point, other residents are invited to come and dismantle it, to take the materials to use for their own purposes.
The “tower” finds its meaning only after it is taken down and fragmented. The image of the tower like a unique symbol and reference point of the township fades away in the horizontality of the neighborhood.
The project is a collaboration with Rossella Biscotti.
